What is the Purpose of Cosmetic Acupuncture?

Cosmetic Acupuncture or Facial Rejuvenation is effective in helping a whole range of presentations.

Did you know that you can do something about feeling old and tired naturally? You can do something about your lines, loss of suppleness and sagging skin without turning to surgery or synthetic fillers.

Cosmetic Acupuncture or Facial Rejuvenation is a natural safe and effective way to change your skin and firm your face. It is a whole body treatment that treats you from the inside out.

Lines and Wrinkles

To soften lines on the face we need to encourage collagen and elastin production. Using two specialised techniques with fine needles inserted into the lines, we cause micro-trauma to the face. This causes a healing response to the face where collagen and elastin are produced to fix it.

By stimulating the muscles on the face with needles we can encourage the muscles to tighten and lift. In 4-5 weeks the skin can feel firmer. With our high stress busy life many of us suffer with facial tension. Acupuncture can also relax these muscles, de stress and rebalance the whole body. We do a whole body treatment to make sure you leave as relaxed as possible.

Preventative of Ageing

Cosmetic Acupuncture stimulates the production of collagen and elastin which are the building blocks that break down with age. By stimulating these building blocks we help to slow down the ageing process.

Dryness, Flakiness and Dull Skin

Cosmetic acupuncture stimulates blood flow to the face. This stimulates and revitalises the skin which helps dryness, flakiness and builds integrity of the flesh. Allowing the connective tissue to become healthier and resulting in more moisture being retained in the skin

Acupuncture helps blood circulation and movement of blockages in the face. Acne is an external manifestation of an internal disharmony, we can assess what is causing your breakouts through pulse and tongue diagnosis and eliminate acne from the root. Pigmentation is also stagnation of the skin. Dispersing this stagnation with needles can help dark spots, scars and acne by allowing fresh blood to the surface of the skin. This encourages the skin to renew and regenerate.

Treatment

Every treatment is different but we will always include appropriate facial acupuncture points and acupuncture points on the body to balance your overall health, hormones and stress levels. LED may

also be used during the needle time to enhance the effect of the acupuncture. Needles are usually left in for about 20 minutes.

We use fine specialised facial needles and treatment is generally painless. There is a risk of bruising but we take the needles out slowly to avoid it where possible. If bruising does occur place ice and arnica on the area. During the treatment you are left to relax and allow the needles to do their magic.

After the needles are taken out. A Jade roller will be used on the face to enhance blood flow and lymphatic drainage.

Then we follow up with a facial mask, massage and ultrasound to increase product absorption.

What to expect with your age ...

20’s and 30’s

In your 20’s and 30’s your skin at it’s best, but life is busy and our skin can suffer.

Cosmetic Acupuncture can help with:

• Dark circles and puffy eyes

• Stress and tension through forehead and brow

• Skin that is looking tired and dull, or that lacks glow

• Dehydrated skin

• Fine lines that are starting to appear

• Acne breakouts & Acne scarring

• Red, sensitive and irritated skin

Cosmetic Acupuncture treatments for patients in their 20s and 30s will focus mostly on increasing blood circulation and movement to the face to brighten and bring back that glow to the skin. Helping fine lines and acne. We recommend: To brighten and hydrate skin: Approx 3 sessions, 1 week apart. Preventative anti-aging: 4 – 6 sessions, 1 – 2 weeks apart.

Maintenance Every 6 – 8 weeks.

In your 40’s

In your 40s your skin can go through a few changes and start to show signs of aging.

These can include:

• Loss of firmness in cheeks and face

• Lines around lips are starting to show

• Fine lines and crepiness in areas of the face

• Forehead, frown line and crows feet start to to deepen

• Naso-labial fold more noticeable

• Stress and tension on face

• Loss of elasticity in skin . Skin looks lacklustre, dry and dehydrated

Cosmetic Acupuncture in your 40’s will be focusing on stimulating the production of collagen and elastin in your face to soften lines and wrinkles and bring back volume and firmness to the face. Increasing blood circulation and movement through the face to oxygenate and revitalise the cells to hydrate, brighten and bring back that glow to your skin. Needling of the muscles of the face may be introduced if you present with weakened or droopy muscles to lift and tone. We Recommend: Anti ageing plus targeted areas: 6 – 8 treatments, once a week.

Maintenance Every 4 – 6 weeks

In your 50’s and 60’s

Cosmetic Acupuncture in your 50’s and 60’s recognises that after menopause, you may notice your face and skin will behave differently. The natural process of your body breaking down collagen and elastin will speed up and the process of building collagen will slow down. This leads to loss of volume, sagging and drooping.

Some common presentations are:

• Sagging and drooping

• Heavy eyelids

• Loss of muscle tone in face

• Loss of volume

• Folds coming from mouth area (marionette lines)

• Deeper lines and wrinkles

• Loss of elasticity- skin lacks bounce

• Crepiness due to excess skin

• Gaunt or hollowness

In your 50s, and 60’s a few different techniques will be used to stimulate collagen production for loss of firmness and lines and wrinkles.

Sagging and drooping will be addressed by targeting Motor points in muscles, lifting and toning the muscles that are responsible for ‘lifting’ the face. The encouragement of blood circulation results in oxygenation of the soft tissues and skin, for softer, more hydrated, glowing skin. Recommended: Anti-aging & targeted areas: 8-12 treatments, 1 – 2 times a week.

Maintenance: Once every 4 weeks.
